In the 1920s, in a small village in Germany, first adidas shoes and adidas clothing emerged. The small village of Herzogenaurach, which is situated about 20 kilometres north and the west of Nuremberg, is where those simple three stripes first emerged. Adolf "Adi" Dassler created the adidas brand after realizing the need for performance athletic shoes. Adidas began as a very small business, producing soccer and running shoes, which ironically enough are still the main products that for which adidas is still known. The brand has continued to gain momentum through the years.
The success of the business and the brand is mainly down to adidas' quality, styling and reputation. Adidas is currently the largest supplier of athletic shoes in Europe, and a major global sports brand.
